About me – Anna
Born and raised in the beautiful Cotswold town of Cheltenham in England, I grew up with a passion for dance and theatre and very itchy feet! I left home at 19 to study Contemporary Dance and Performing Arts and after graduating spent the following years dancing, teaching and travelling in England, Japan, Greece and the USA.
In 2004 I was keen for a new adventure and retrained as a TEFL teacher (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) later accepting a job offer at a language academy just outside of Barcelona. Filled with excitement and dreams of learning Spanish whilst basking in the glorious Mediterranean Sun, I landed in a city full of Catalan speakers on a very stormy night. As I stood drenched on the pavement desperately trying to protect my bags from the hammering rain, it dawned on me that I knew absolutely nothing about the place I had just dropped everything to move to – not even which languages were spoken! (I’m embarrassed to say that at that time I had never even heard of Catalan). However, my impetuousness paid off and I quickly fell head over heels in love with the city which I now very happily call home.
Eloquent Barcelona is a project that has been a very long-time in the making and combines all of the aspects that I love about language and being a foreigner working and living in a multi-lingual environment. Inspired by a desire to work for myself and dedicate my time and energy to something that I feel passionate about, I decided to combine all of the knowledge and experience that I have accrued over the years to create a company offering services based on my own unique cocktail of expertise. At the same time, considering what I would like to be offered as a language student or as a business – large or small – working with or hoping to attract international clients or collaborators.
Since arriving in Barcelona almost 13 years ago, I’ve been on both sides of the language fence so to speak, as both a student and provider of language services. I’ve taught students of all ages English & Business English in highly regarded academies & businesses. I’ve spent 8 years working for important local companies in administration and customer service roles providing language support. And I’ve also been a language student, studying Spanish & Catalan in group and private classes and preparing for and taking exams. Therefore, I feel confident that whatever your personal language needs may be, we’ll be able to create the perfect “Bespoke Language Service” for you here at Eloquent Barcelona.
